On Tuesday, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of students from Loyalist College’s Art and Design Foundation program. Hardy Stevenson and Associates Limited (HSAL) is partnering with Loyalist College to produce branding for one of our non-profit clients: the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra. This creative collaboration is exciting for a variety of reasons:
- The Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) has innovative youth programming, and aims to support young talent in its orchestra, with students from the University of Toronto and local high schools, performing and composing original works.
- Loyalist’s Art and Design program is one of the most cutting-edge new offerings from this college, allowing students from a variety of backgrounds explore different media, participate in juried art exhibitions and develop a professional portfolio.
- Bringing together these two groups allows for learning, creative development and fun for everyone involved (yes, myself as well).
Students from this program will be working with faculty to create a branding concept for the SPO, including a colour scheme, font, wordmark and icon that will become the public face of the orchestra. This project reinforces SPO’s commitment to youth, and allows the students to gain hands-on experience working with a client to produce professional quality design work.

We understand the power behind community partnerships, and have the connections and insight to bring foster collaboration that will produce high quality, excellent communications.
